Fava Beans with Pecorino

We used the fava beans from the market to make a classic Roman dish: Fava Beans with Pecorino.  We actually boiled the fava for a minute before shelling them, but many people will just toss a pile of unpeeled fava on the table and eat them completely raw with slices of pecorino.  We also cooked up a side of chicory as well as spaghetti in a simple olive oil and garlic sauce.  It felt like a true Italian springtime meal, thrown together with our market finds and whatever was in the pantry.
